About Prêt-à-Lire
Prêt-à-Lire ("we", "our", or "us") is an AI-powered personalised bedtime story app for children. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and families who use our service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the Prêt-à-Lire mobile application ("App"), and when you visit our pre-launch website to sign up for launch notifications.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information: Account Information • Email address and password, or, if you choose to sign in with Sign in with Apple, the identifier Apple provides us (for parent/guardian accounts) • Display name (optional) Child Profiles • Child's name or nickname • Age range (used to tailor story content) • Preferred story themes and characters • A cartoon-style avatar built from preset options (hair style/colour, skin tone, eye colour, glasses, etc.) — no photo of your child is uploaded or collected Story Data • Stories generated within the app • Favourite and reading history (stored locally and on our servers) Account Usage Data • Number of stories generated and your subscription/quota status, tied to your account, so that we can enforce plan limits and provide support Anonymous Usage Data • Pages read, features used (collected anonymously for app improvement) • Crash reports and performance data Push Notifications • If you enable notifications, we collect a device push token so we can notify you when a story is ready. You can disable this at any time in your device settings. Payment Information • Subscription and purchase data is handled by the Apple App Store. We do not store credit card numbers ourselves. A web version of the App is planned; this section will be updated with website payment details once that launches. Website • Our pre-launch website (pretalire.com) lets visitors submit their email address to be notified when the App launches. We collect only the email address you choose to provide, used solely to send you that one launch notification (and any closely related updates before launch, e.g. if launch is delayed). You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing privacy@pretalire.com.
COPPA Compliance (Children Under 13)
Prêt-à-Lire is designed for use by parents and guardians on behalf of children. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). • We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13; all information is provided by the parent or guardian setting up the child's profile. • Child profiles contain only a name/nickname, age range, and a cartoon-style avatar built from preset options — no photo, email address, or precise location is collected for a child profile. • Parents can review, edit, or delete any child profile at any time from the Profile screen. • We do not sell or share children's information with third-party advertisers. • We do not serve behavioural advertising to children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without parental consent, please contact us immediately at privacy@pretalire.com.
GDPR / UK GDPR (EEA and UK Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the GDPR: • Right to access — request a copy of your personal data. • Right to rectification — correct inaccurate data. • Right to erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten"). • Right to data portability — receive your data in a portable format. • Right to restrict processing — limit how we use your data. • Right to object — object to certain uses of your data. To exercise these rights, email privacy@pretalire.com. We will respond within 30 days. Our legal basis for processing data is: • Contract performance (to provide the service you signed up for) • Legitimate interests (improving app quality and security) • Consent (where we ask for it explicitly, such as launch-notification emails) Some of the service providers described under "Data Sharing" below are located outside the UK/EEA. Where this is the case, we put appropriate safeguards in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data continues to receive an adequate level of protection.
California Residents
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under California privacy law (e.g. the CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we hold about you, the right to request deletion, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. We do not sell or "share" (as those terms are defined under California law) personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to: • Create and personalise bedtime stories for your child • Maintain your account and subscription • Improve app performance and fix bugs • Send transactional emails (account confirmations, receipts, launch notifications for pre-launch subscribers) • Comply with legal obligations We do not: • Sell your personal data to third parties • Use your data for targeted advertising • Share data with advertisers
Data Sharing
We share data only with trusted service providers necessary to operate the App. The specific providers we use may change as we improve the service, so rather than list vendor names here, we describe what each category of provider does: • Authentication & cloud database — manages secure sign-in and stores your account and child-profile data. • Cloud storage — securely stores generated story illustrations and narration audio in access-controlled storage. • AI story generation — processes your prompts to generate story text. The provider does not retain personal data beyond what is needed to fulfil the request. • AI illustration generation — processes story scene descriptions and your child's avatar/character details to generate story illustrations. • AI narration — converts story text into spoken audio. For some languages, a second specialised narration provider is used to improve pronunciation quality; the same principles in this section apply to it. • Subscription management — verifies and manages your subscription status. No payment card data is shared with this provider. • Product analytics — collects anonymous usage data (e.g. which features are used) to help us improve the App. • Crash & error reporting — receives technical crash reports and performance data (not the content of your stories) to help us diagnose and fix bugs. All service providers are contractually bound to protect your data and are prohibited from using it for their own purposes. If you would like the current list of named providers — for example, for your own GDPR/UK GDPR records — email privacy@pretalire.com and we'll provide it.
Data Retention
• Account data is retained while your account is active. • You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from the App's Settings screen, or by emailing privacy@pretalire.com. • When you delete your account, your account record, child profiles, stories, and associated illustrations/audio are deleted from our active systems immediately. Any copies retained in secure backups are removed within 30 days as part of our routine backup rotation. • Pre-launch website (pretalire.com) email addresses are deleted upon request, or automatically once we've sent the launch notification and a reasonable follow-up period has passed. • Anonymous analytics data may be retained for up to 24 months.
Security
We take security seriously: • All data is transmitted over TLS/HTTPS encryption. • Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. • We use a reputable third-party identity provider for secure account authentication. • Generated content (illustrations, audio) is stored in access-controlled, private cloud storage. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we use industry-standard measures to protect your data.
Cookies & Tracking
The Prêt-à-Lire mobile app does not use cookies. It keeps you signed in using a secure authentication token stored on your device, rather than a browser cookie. Anonymous analytics events (e.g., story started, page read) are collected to improve the app. Our pre-launch website (pretalire.com) collects only the email address you choose to submit for launch notifications. It does not set advertising or tracking cookies.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
